Cadets conducted a COOK FIRE CLASS given by local Scouting Personality 2nd Lt Terry Bru as well as practiced Drill for the upcoming LA POSADA DE KINGSVILLE  PARADE.

2d Lt Terry Bru reviews cook fire safety as he instructs a core group of COASTAL BEND CADET SQUADRON CADETS who, in the same manner as was done in the Revolutionary War of the late-1700s, will train other members of their flight.

The other members of A, B and C flights practiced drill.  The influx of new cadets may over whelm the squadron's resources.  Notice the attempts to uniform everyone are slowly taking the unit to compliance.

Using tried and true methods, 2d Lt Bru instructs cadets in the fundamentals of fire from the "FIRE TRIANGLE" to idea that one must "build" a fire using specially selected wood ranging from the skinniest twigs to more substantial branches and logs.

MISSION ACCOMPLISHED...a small cook fire is made using, this occasion, only one match.  The cadets who observed the class then built their own fires.  They will instruct the rest of the flights once the unit returns from the Thanksgiving Holidays.

Memorial Civil Air Patrol Cadets support Veterans

By Major Joe Ely Carrales, CAP

Memorial Middle School— Cadets of the Coastal Bend Cadet Squadron honored local military Veterans by conducting a drill team routine at Harrell Elementary and marching in the 2011 Kingsville Veteran’s Day Parade in Historic Downtown Kingsville.

“We are always honored,” said Major Joe Ely Carrales the cadet squadron commander, “especially when we can lend our support to such a noble cause.”

The unit marched from Memorial Middle School, where they are garrisoned, to Harrell Elementary in the morning school hours of Veteran’s Day. There they performed a prepared routine and Major Carrales played taps in honor of the fallen.

The H.M. King Army JROTC color guard presented the colors and the guest speaker was The Honorable Judge Juan Escobar who sang a corrido , Spanish language ballad, he wrote about a local WWII veteran, Cruz Mata, who passed away.

Additionally, the Cadets also marched in the Parade in downtown Kingsville fielding a color gaurd and read column. It was the first parade of the year.
