CAP Cadets from Memorial Present Colors at Hooks Game

by Major Joe Ely Carrlaes, CAP

Corpus Christi, Texas- Cadets from the Coastal Bend Cadet Squadron presented the Colors at the 17 April 2011 outing of the Corpus Christi Hooks baseball club at What-A-Burger Field in Corpus Christi, Texas.  The opportunity to present the Colors during opening weekend came to the unit via the good graces of Mr. Steve Richards, Director of Ballpark Entertainment, who coordinated with the Coastal Bend Cadet Squadron staff to make the opportunity a reality.

All four cadets who participated attend Kingsville's Memorial Middle School (MMS).  In attendance for the occasion representing the Unit's cadets and MMS were C/SSgt Savahanna Jimenez, C/SrA Juan Vela,J C/SrA Juan Cardec and C/Amn Jon Stillwagon.

The cadets practiced all week in preparation for the activity.  Kudos to C/SSgt S. Jimenez, CAP who really displayed her leadership abilities in making this happen.

The next high profile activity to present the colors will be the Beach-to-Bay Relay Marathon.  A colors element may be formed for the Buc Day Parade, however, that activity will be a sustained march instead of presentation of the colors.

It is hoped that those colors elements will be joint ones between the Coastal Bend Cadet Squadron and Corpus Christi Comp Squadron.

With the focus of the Unit being directed to the Buc Days Tuesdays will become heavy on marching and games of knockout.

"It will be very important to polish up all our drill and ceremonies." said Major Carrales, "of Coastal Bend Cadets, I can take only 10 safely in the van.  There will have to be a selection process.  I am also encouraging parents to help by attending the parade, if possible, and driving them to the activity."
